Abstract:
In this paper we study the structure of optimal solutions of
one-dimensional second order variational problems arising in continuum mechanics. We are interested in properties of the optimal solutions which are independent of the length of the interval, for all sufficiently large intervals. The study of theseproperties is based on the relation between variational problems on bounded large intervals and a limitimg problem on $[0,\infty)$.
Turnpike results for a class of variational problems arising in continuum mechanics
